SIXTY YEARS RESIDENT OF KEOKUK Mrs. Louis Bode of 1110 Palean Street Who Came Here From Germany Sixty years ago today Mrs. Lena Bode of 1110 Palean street arried in the city of Keokuk and has been a resident here ever since that date. She is one of the good and honored old mothers of Keokuk whose sterling and unpretentious qualities contribute much to the sensible, social pleasures and advancement of a community. She came here from the German faderland, whence came many of the substantial early-day residents of the city, which has evidently been benefited by their coming. Amond the several children of this good old Keokuk mother are Mrs. Mary Hicks, Mrs. Barbara Kraft and william Bode, all of Keokuk, who enjoy with her the memories of the anniversary of the day on which she landed in Keokuk and took up her abode here. She also has other descendants and many friends here who will congratulate her on her long and pleasant residence here. (The Daily Gate City, Keokuk, IA, May 1, 1915, Page 9) DEATH CLEAINS AGED WOMAN Mrs. Louis Bode, for Sixty-three Years a Resident of Keokuk, Died at her Homme Last Night. The death of Mrs. Louis Bode took place last night at 10 p., at her home, 1110 Palean street. She had been sick for a year, suffering from hardening of the arteries, but was able to be around until last Wednesday, when she fell and broke her hip. From then until her death she failed rapidly. Marie Magdaline Metzger was born in Baden, Germany, July 22, 1845. When nine years old she came with her people to the United States and first settled at Quincy, Illinois. May 1, 1845, the family moed to Keokuk, since which time she made her home here. She was married to Louis Bode in this city April 24, 1864. Mr. Bode passed away in 1908. Mrs. Bode was a ember of St. Paul's Evangelixl church of this city. She is survived by one son and three daughters as follows: Mrs.B Kraft, Mrs. Mary Hicks and Wm. Bode of Keokuk, and Mrs. Tony Filker of Quincy. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. John Smith of Warsaw, Illinois, and five grandchildren.
