JOHN GENGLER CAME TO PLYMOUTH COUNTY FIFTYFOUR YEARS AGO Last rites were held in St. Catherine church at Oyens Tuesday morning, Rev. H. Rolfes, the pastor, officiating, for Mrs. John Gengler, a pioneer settler of Plymouth county, and interment made in the cemetery in Oyens. Mary Magdalene Ronck, daughter of Frank and Sarak Ronck, was born in Mensdorf, Grand Duchy of Lunembourg, July 21, 1858. With a sister, Mary who subsequently married Michael Wagner, she came to America in the spring of 1873 and settled at Rolling Stone, Minn. She was united in marriage in 1875 with Matthias Thill and one son, John Thill of Le Mars, was born to them. Mr. and Mrs. Thill after their marriage lived at Glenhaven in Wisconsin for a few years. They came to Le Mars in 1879. Mr. Thill died in 1882. Mrs. Thill was married in 1883 to John Gengler, a farmer of Marion township. They lived on the farm. They moved to Le Mars to afford their children educational facilities. Living in town for several years they moved back to the country and engaged in farming near Remsen in 1899. Seven years later they located on a farm adjoining the town of Oyens and in 1920 moved into Oyens. Mrs. Gengler had been in poor health for the past seven years and six weeks ago her condition became serious. Her death is mourned by her husband, John Gengler, four sons, Michael, Theodore and John Peter, of this vicinity, Nicholas gengler, of Cavour, S.D., and four daughters, Mrs. Frances Theisen, Mrs. John Arens, Mrs. George Lanzendorf, of Oyens vicinity, and Mrs. Gerritt Probst, of Alton. There are fourty-four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Peters, of Oyens, and Mrs. Katherine Kolbert, of Hassal, Luxembourg, Europe, also survive her. Mrs. Gengler was a member of St. Catherine's church at Oyens and of the Christian Mothers society and was affiliated with the Missionary Society of Catholic Women. The pallbearers were John Meis, Peter Fisch, Charles Kuster, Jos. Kemp, Jacob Doud and John Kaiser. The funeral was largely attended. Among those from out of town attending are: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Conrady, John Ronck, Nick Ronck and Victor Ronck, of Sakite, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gengler and daughter, Lorraine, of Cavour, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. James Kinney, of Alton; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Porbst and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Probst, of Alton; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Garvin, of Marcus; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Clemens, of Merrill; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gengler, Mr. and Mrs. John Nilles, Mr. and Mrs. Nic Hatz, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Arens, of Remsen; Mrs. Frances Schnepf and daughter, Carrie, of Remsen; Miss Olive Arens, of Remsen; Mr. and Mrs. J. Gengler, of Whittemore, Iowa; Miss Margaret Arens, Mrs. Katherine Nothem, of Remsen.
