Read More	The Phonograph, Wednesday, May 29th, 1935 Mrs. Magdalene Smolczyk for many years a resident of Howard County, passed away at her home southwest of this city, on Friday, May 24, 1935, following an illness of almost five weeks, pneumonia and complications being the cause of her death. On Easter Monday, Mrs. Smolczyk had several hens and small chicks to attend to. That day the dust storm was very severe and she was out in the storm for a considerable time with the result that when she was stricken with pneumonia a day or so later, her condition became very serious. For several days she was very ill, but she got some better, her case responding to treatment in fine shape. Later on when she was getting over the pneumonia, her heart weakened and she passed to her great reward on last Friday. Magdalene Sack was born in Germany on May 27, 1858. Here in the old home surroundings she grew to womanhood. Joe, John and Abel Sack, her brothers, left the old home in Germany and came to America. After they had been in America for a while they sent back home for the rest of the family to join them in this country. In the year 1890 the family came here direct to Howard county. In the year 1891, Miss Sack and Rudolph Smolczyk were joined in marriage, the ceremony having been performed in the Posen Catholic church. In that year Mr. and Mrs. Smolczyk started housekeeping on the Smolczyk farm southwest of this city and ever since that time she has resided on that farm. Here she and her lat husband, who passed away in 1928, reared a family of five sons. They are John, August, Jacob, Joseph and Robert, all of whom survive her. Jacob is still at the old home while the rest of the boys are operating a large farming enterprise in western Nebraska, near Brule and Ogallala. There may be five members of a family in this state who are just as good as the Smolczyk boys, but there are none that are any better than they are. They are a credit to this fine Christian lady who devoted so much to her family. Wh was of a quiet, retiring nature and she devoted practically all of her time attending to the wants of her family. A simple Christian lady who did much to better this part of the world where she lived for so many years. Her family are all reared and doing for themselves, but they will miss her greatly in the future. In addition to her five stalwart sons, she leaves to mourn her death her brothers, Joseph, August and Frank Sack, of this city, John and Abel Sack of Haley, North Dakota, and one sister, Miss Effie, of this city, as well as a number of friends in the community who had known her for many years. Mrs. Smolczyk was a strong, healthy woman. She enjoyed the best of health all her life until stricken after Easter Monday, when deathclaimed her. She had almost reached her 77th birthday, as she was buried on Monday, the 77th anniversary of her birth. Following her death, her body was brought to the Christensen Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial and then taken to the home of her brother, Joe Sack, where it remained until Monday morning when the funeral services were held. Services wree held in the local Catholic church, Rev. Jos. Hinzmann of Farwell, celebrating requiem Mass assisted by the local pastor, Rev. John Gleeson. Following the services at the church, the remains were conveyed to the cemetery southwest of this city where they were laid to rest in the family lot. A large crowd of relatives and friends were present to show their respect to her memory. Six nephews, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sack, were the pallbearers. They wree Bernard, George, Raymond, Paul, Martin and Roy Sack. A number of friends and relatives from out of town were here for the funeral: John, August, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smolczyk and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smolczyk, Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Kaminski, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Krajewski, Mrs. Stanley Jarosz, all of Brule, and Mrs. Lawrence Sack of Omaha. The Phonograph joins with the many friends of the family in extending condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family at this time. CARD OF THANKS We take this method of thanking all the friends and neighbors for the kindness and assistance showered on us during the sickness and after the death of our beloved mother and sister, Mrs. Magdalene Smolczyk. Especially do we wish to thank Father Gleeson and Father Hinzmann and the choir for their kindness and help. Never will we forget you.
