Maggie Alma Prothero was born the daughter of Morton and Ophelia Prothero at Car Valley, Wis., on July 16, 1868. When a small child she moved with her parents to Orchard, Iowa. Several years later they went to Niabrara[sic], Nebraska, to live and there she was married to William T. Hackett, November 6, 1887. After their marriage they came to the La Porte City community, where they farmed until retireing to town in 1920. Since that time she had been a resident of La Porte City. Mr. Hackett died June 24, 1926. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Westcott, one brother, Clarence Protero and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Rice. Her survivors are two sons, Roy W. Hackett, Janesville and Raymond C. Hackett, Fernald; six daughters, Mrs. Stella Kober and Mrs. Eva Bertelsen of La Porte City, Mrs. Grace Cawelti of Cedar Falls, Mrs.Jessie Smith and Miss Edith Hackett of Waterloo and Mrs. Iola Schwoob of Rockwell; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One brother, William A. Prothero of Herman, Minn., also survive. Mrs. Hackett was a longtime and well known citizen of the community. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and the W.R.C. and helped organize the Good Cheer club. The body is at the Johnannsen funeral home. Funeral services are tentatively set for Friday(tomorrow) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church with Henry Warkentin in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in West View cemetery.
