Description	:	"Mahala Lewis, daughter of Thomas and Mary Lewis, was born in Johnson County, Ohio, on February 16, 1830, and died on Saturday, August 30, 1913, aged 83 years, 6 months and 14 days. An an early age she moved to Warren County, Indiana, where in the year 1851 she was united in marriage with Garret Clawson. To this union were born eight children, all of whom died at an early age, except Thomas Clawson and Mrs. William Graves, both living near Lafayette. Read More	"Mahala Lewis, daughter of Thomas and Mary Lewis, was born in Johnson County, Ohio, on February 16, 1830, and died on Saturday, August 30, 1913, aged 83 years, 6 months and 14 days. An an early age she moved to Warren County, Indiana, where in the year 1851 she was united in marriage with Garret Clawson. The husband preceded her to the Great Beyond twenty years ago, since which time she has lived most among her children and grandchildren. During the past four years she had spent the greater part of the time at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Gus Gephart, near Carbondale, Warren County, where she was ever found in her accustomed chair with a smiling countenance for all passers-by. She was an especial friend to all the little children, who all considered grandma's smile well worth winning. About eleven years ago grandma suffered a stroke of paralysis and for many days her recovery seemed very doubtful, but being a woman of very great vitality she rallied extra strength and improved to such an extent that she was able to go about again, but her steps were very feeble. She continued in fair health until about five weeks ago, when she was again stricken, at first with an acute stomach trouble, which later developed into a comatose condition. After two weeks of almost complete unconsciousness she closed her tired eyes and passed away on Saturday, August 30, 1913. THe funeral services were held in the U.B. church at Independence on Monday, September 1, by Rev. A.C.
