Funeral services for Mrs Mahala Clark , 72, of Floris, were held at the Floris Baptist church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev Luther Childs, of Centerville. Mrs Clark, a lifelong resident of Davis count y, died suddenly at the home of her son, Arthur Clark, in Ottumwa. Mrs Clark was the daughter of Alfred and Amanda Benge and was born in this county February 2, 1871. Her husband the late Douglas Clark preceded her in de ath March 29, 1937. In addition to the 1 son, Arthur, 3 daughters survive. They are Mrs Mont Grinstead, of Agency, Mrs Dale Rupe, Ottumwa, and Mrs Gene Brooks of near Des Moines. The body was at Wagler Funeral Home, in Bloomfield. Internment was made at the Floris cemetery.-1943 Karen, Mahala Benge, daughter of Alfred and Amanda Benge, was born in Davis county, Iowa, near Floris, February 8, 1871, and grew in womanhood near the home of her birth. She was united in marriage to Douglas Clark, March 7th, 1802, and five children were born to this union, four daughters and one son; one daughter dying in infancy. The living are Mrs. Edna Grinstead of Batavia, Arthur of Ottumwa, Mrs. Eugene Brooks of West Des Moines and Mrs. Dale Rupe of Highland Center. Mrs. Clark departed this life at the home of her son Wednesday, June 2nd, being at the time of death 72 years, 3 months and 24 days. Besides her children she is survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchidren, three brothers and three sisters, Jeff and Will of floris and John of Davenport, Mrs. Anna Baird, Mrs. Sarah Hale and Mrs. Mae Mutchler, all of Floris. Mr. and Mrs. Clark began homekeeping on a farm,near Floris and continued active on farm and rural life until the death of Mr. Clark, which occurred on the 20th day of March 1937. And besides the husband and infant daughter, the mother and wife was also preceeded in death by one sister, Mrs, Dave Christine, one brother, Chester, one grandchild and two great grandchildren. In early womanhood, Mrs. Clark was converted and baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church of Floris, remaining a loyal member of this body of worshippers until God called her home. Her health failed some few years ago and since that time she was lovingly cared for by those who love a devoted mother. Funeral services were held at the Floris Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by her long-time friend, the Rev. Luther W. Childs of Centerville. The crowd of old neighbors and friends, yes and younger ones too, also the lovely floral offerings, all bore evidence of esteem and love for the departed and sympathy for the bereft.
