H.. Jones, J. A. Jones, who is now Treasurer of his county, A. H. Jones, Dr. F.J. Jones, Mattie A. Jones and Signora, the wife of Prof. J. L. Sheppe, who have the sincere sympathy of their large circle of friends." Staunton Spectator January 17, 1871 Oakland High School, Doe Hill, Highland County - It will be seen by reference to a communication published in this issue that the citizens of Doe Hill, Highland County, held a meeting on the 7th inst, for the purpose of forming a joint stock company to secure the requisite means to erect the necessary buildings for a High School at that place. On motion of Col. Benjamin Hiner, Maj. Andrew J. Jones was called to the chair, and Jared A. Jones chosen Secretary. The object of the meeting being to raise a sufficient amount of funds to erect the necessary buildings for a High School at Doe Hill, Va., on the Joint Stock plan, the following gentlemen became stockholders, to wit: William F. McQuain, H. H. Jones, Mahlon Armstrong, James K. P. Hiner, Alfred Armstrong, Jared M. Wilson, Hamilton Wilson, Baily Hiner, J. P. Hiner, Benj. Hiner, Henry Seybert, J. Newton Fisher, Harmon Hiner, William Hiner, Andrew J. Jones, Geo. W. Armstrong, Jared A. Jones, Henry C. Jones, B H. Blagg and Samuel C. Eagle. On motion the stockholders proceeded to the election of Trustees, which resulted as follows: Wm. Hiner, Jared M. Wilson, Henry C. Jones, Andrew J. Jones and Alfred Armstrong. And the following gentlemen were, by the chair, appointed a building committee, to wit: Benj Hiner, Henry C Jones. Samuel C. Eagle, Henry H. Jones and J. K. F. Hiner. The Trustees then proceeded to the election of a Faculty for Oakland High School, which resulted as follows: Rev. W. R McNeer, Principal and Prof, of English Literature and Moral and Mental Philosophy.
