She was a member of Huntington Mennonite Church. Survivors include her husband, Golden D. Allen Sr.; a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Canada of Seaford; five sons, William B. She was born February 11, 1900 in Ashville, NC. On April 23, 1919, she married Golden D. Allen in the First Baptist Church, Ashville, NC. They moved to Newport News in 1939. From this union, seven children were born: Golden D. Allen, Jr., deceased; William B. Allen, Sr., of Newport News; James B. Allen, Sr. of Hampton; John H. Allen, Sr., of Houston, Texas; Vivian L. Canada of Seaford; Joe Allen of Newport News; Jack Allen of Hampton. She is survived by 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Through Sara Weaver, Sr., she came to know the Lord, and was baptized on April 14, 1957 in the Huntington Mennonite Church. On April 23, 1984, Golden and Mamie observed their 65th wedding anniversary. Family and friends remembered Mamie as a faithful wife and loving mother whose home was open at all times. Because she loved people, she seldom wanted to be alone. Some of her favorite things included visiting grandchildren, preparing large meals, and letter writing. In her free time, she love to work crossword puzzles. A day was never complete without reading her Bible which she read through 3 times. Mamie was always a good listener who never interfered in the lives of her family. During her extended illness, she never lost her fatih nor complained. Mamie will be missed by everyone who knew her.
