She was the oldest child of Charles E. and Mattie Young, and died January 16, 1942, at the age of 56 years, 7 months, 1 day. She attended the country school for the first term, after which her parents moved to Bloomfield. She graduated from B.H.S. in 1904, and also finished at the Southern Iowa Noraml school the same year in the Music department. The following year she went to Drake University at Des Moines, where she continued the study of music. She had a large music class in piano instruction up until 1910, also being pianist at the Church of Christ during these years. On March 16, 1910, she was united in marriage to Guy L. Pettit, son of Mr. and Mrs. Giles Pettit, of Mt. Sterling where they lived for seven years. Two children were born to this union. In 1917, she and her family moved back to her old home town of Bloomfield. It was a happy day to be again in her old home near her father and mother. Mrs. Pettit's father passed away the following spring. She is survived by her dearly beloved husband, two loving sons, Lowell E who is located in New York City, and Charles, a senior in Iowa University; her mother, Mrs. Mattie Young, three sisters, Stella Horn of Council Bluffs, Nellie Dunfrund of Bloomfield, and Dorothy Williams of White Bear Lake, Minn., and one brother, Eph Young of Bloomfield; one daughter-in-law, Mary Huntington Pettit of New York City, and one niece, Marilyn Williams. Mrs. Pettit was always happy when working in the church she loved. She was a member of the Bloomfield Church of Christ, taught in the Sunday school before her health failed, sang in the choir, was a member of the missionary society and always willing to donate whenever called upon, or do in any way what she could to help in any department. Her greatest joy was in her family and home. She lived for her husband and two sons and the rest of her family. She was always anxious in anything of progress for them and was so interested in music and education for her sons. It can be said, "She hath done what she could." Owing to failure of health and a crippled condition, she has found it impossible to do what she so desired in church work for the last ten years. Her husband's work and the boys' interest were always first with her. Mrs. Pettit was well liked by all and it can be said that the church has lost a devoed member, her husband has lost a good pal, her boys a good and kind mother and her family a loving daughter and sister, and the community a friend. She was a member to two clubs . , (missing) and of the Order of Eastern Star. Services were conducted by Rev. L.H. Hudson at the Curl Funeral home, January 18, 1942, at 2 oclock p.m. Mrs. Frata Brown, Mrs Blankinship and Mrs. Sullivan sang accompanied by Mrs. Morgan on the piano. The burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
