They were married for 67 years and resided... Read More	Friendship - M. V. Williams, Jr., age 89, of Germantown, Tennessee died October 6 wrapped in the arms of the Lord. He was born September 26, 1920 in Friendship, TN to the late Vester and Carrie Williams. He was a graduate of Friendship High School, the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, and the US Army Air Corps Bombardier School. He was pre-deceased by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Virginia Dare Stallings Williams. He missed her every day after her death and looked forward to being with her again in God's Kingdom. They were married for 67 years and resided in Friendship until their retirement to Germantown. Mr. Williams had a very active and productive life as a land owner and farmer while practicing his profession as a pharmacist. Due to his involvement in numerous organizations, his children in their early years believed his profession to be that of "conventionier". He served as the President of the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy, Tennessee Telephone Association, Tennessee Poultry and Egg Federation and Friendship Water Company. He was also Vice President of the Crockett Telephone Company and served as a member of the Crockett County Board of Education for over 50 years. He served for 25 years as a member of the Mississippi Valley Flood Control Association's executive committee and as the Chairman of the executive committee for 15 years. His long history of involvement with water resources included the organization of local landowners into the West Tennessee Tributaries Association which supported the Corps of Engineers in their efforts to complete the congressionally authorized West Tennessee flood control project. He called upon Congress to approve millions of dollars for those projects annually and once remarked to his daughter that he then knew what she went through when asking for an increase in her allowance. He was presented the Department of the Army's Outstanding Civilian Service Award, the highest honor awarded a civilian by the Army, in 1994. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Friendship prior to his move to Germantown. Thereafter he attended Germantown Methodist Church where he and his wife made many wonderful new friends. He loved to travel and was blessed to enjoy many trips with family and friends. Mr. Williams' cooperative spirit and positive attitude, along with a quick, dry wit, was always evident. He is surved by two sons, Bill Williams and his wife Alice, of Friendship, Mike Williams and his wife Gay of Memphis, two daughters, Brenda Dare Pugh Estok and her husband George and Dotty Carter and her husband Mike of Germantown, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Friendship Funeral Home in Friendship on October 8 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation in Memphis will be held on October 9 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Germantown United Methodist Church with a memorial service immediately following. The funeral service will be held that afternoon at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Friendship at 3:30 with burial following in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the Veterans Museum, 100 Veterans Drive, Halls, TN 38040 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
