Description	:	Manly W. Owen, age 85, of South Shore, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at his home. Manly W. Owen, the son of Manly E. and Josephine M. (Walsh) Owen, was born on December 30, 1921 in Waubay, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Stockholm, South Dakota. He attended school at Klondike School and Milbank High School. He married Maxine E. Pugh on April 20, 1947 in Waubay at the Immaculate Conception Church. To this union three children were born, Gloria, Wayne and Beverly. Owen, the son of Manly E. and Josephine M. (Walsh) Owen, was born on December 30, 1921 in Waubay, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Stockholm, South Dakota. He attended school at Klondike School and Milbank High School. He married Maxine E. Pugh on April 20, 1947 in Waubay at the Immaculate Conception Church. To this union three children were born, Gloria, Wayne and Beverly. Manly was a well known eastern South Dakota cattle order buyer. He was a rancher and also owned and operated a livestock trucking business. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing cards, having coffee and visiting with friends. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, South Shore Town Board, South Shore Volunteer Fire Department, South Shore Commercial Club, and Watertown Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Richie Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of South Shore, SD; his children, Gloria (Tom) Letrud of Louisburg, MN, Wayne (Nancie) Owen of South Shore, SD and Beverly (Richard) Carpenter of Watertown, SD; his grandchildren, Jada, Skip and Josh Letrud; Kelly Owen, Kevin (Jodie) Owen and Megan (and her fiance, D.J. Gaikowski) Owen; Libby Carpenter and Rob (Sara) Carpenter; his great grandchildren, Ethan Owen and Breyden Miller, Taylor and Kylie Carpenter and Owen and Max Rieffenberger. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father James Bream as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary Casketbearers will be Richard and June Schaack, Art and Eunice Meyer, Orville and Carol Matthes, Wayne and Ruth Elshere, Bill Aaker, Harold Sorkness and Ray Amdahl. Active Casketbearers will be Gene Schlagel, Dennis Hellwig, Dorrell Pelkey, Greg Gibson, Gary Mack and Merlyn Siegfried. Arrangements by Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel.
