MANIE BYRD DIED IN BALTIMORE She Had Been For Two Years Before Death Claimed Her FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON MONDAY AFTERNOON One of the community's most highly regarded residents, Mrs. Mania A. Byrd ,died at the home of a friend, Mrs. Lloyd Scott, in Baltimore, Friday of last week, April 23rd. Mrs. Byrd had been ill for about two years, and about ten days before she died it was known that death was near. During the many months when disease had laid its heavy hand upon her she was cheerful and hopeful and patiently endured her suffering, which it times was very intense. A woman of fine personality energetic and helpful, she had a large circle of friends and acquaintances to whom her death came as a great shock and who miss her keenly. She had been a member of Asbury Methodist Church for a great many years. She was a member of one of the county's most prominent families, a daughter of the late Thomas Ward and Alice Horner Ward, and the widow of the late Luther Byrd, and was born on June 29th, 1881, and was 61 years of age. Her body rested at the home of her sister, Mrs. Murray Ward, wife of Sheriff Murray E. Ward, on the Jacksonville road until Monday noon, when it was carried to Asbury Methodist Church, where funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock that afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. T. Rowlenson. Interment was in the family plot in Asbury cemetery beside the body of her husband. The pall hearers were members of the Men's Bible Class of Asbury Church. The beauty and profusion of the floral pieces which were banked about her casket in the church testified to the love and esteem in which she was held by family and friends, and a large number of friends and relatives attended the services to pay their last respects to the deceased. Mrs. Byrd is survived by her son, J. Lloyd Byrd, a U. S. Government inspector stationed at present in Norfolk, Va. One sister, Mrs. Murray E. Ward, and four brothers, Fred, William, Frank and James Ward, also survive her. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, April 30, 1943, p. 1
