Description	:	M. Nicholson SALEM - Marcelene Powell Nicholson, 79, of Big Flint died Saturday evening, July 5, 2003, in Dayton, Ohio, following an extended illness. She was born July 5, 1923, in Doddridge County, the daughter of the late Clurel Cecil Powell and Lillian Violet Wallace of Big Flint. She attended Evergreen United Methodist Church, attended Doddridge County High School and was employed building and repairing aircraft during World War II in Akron, Ohio. Nicholson SALEM - Marcelene Powell Nicholson, 79, of Big Flint died Saturday evening, July 5, 2003, in Dayton, Ohio, following an extended illness. She was born July 5, 1923, in Doddridge County, the daughter of the late Clurel Cecil Powell and Lillian Violet Wallace of Big Flint. She attended Evergreen United Methodist Church, attended Doddridge County High School and was employed building and repairing aircraft during World War II in Akron, Ohio. She had a life-long interest in art, especially oil painting. As a display of her musical talents, she and her sisters comprised a singing group that entertained the local community. In later life, she took up playing the piano as a hobby. Mrs. Nicholson was an avid bird watcher and especially enjoyed the hummingbirds that flocked to her feeder each spring. Surviving are one son, Dr. Gary L. Nicholson, MD and his wife, Shirley, of Kettering, Ohio; one daughter, Carolyn Nicholson of Texas; two brothers, Howard Powell and his wife, Jean, of Big Flint and Sherman Powell and his wife, Doris, of Akron; two sisters, the Rev. Irene Ford of New Cumberland and Mrs. Wilbur (Lorene) Sesco of Florida; and a stepsister, Mrs. Ezra (Beverly) Swisher of Williamstown. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin L. Nicholson, whom she married April 17, 1944, and a brother, Alvin Powell. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, with the Revs. Lillian Simmons and Lester Stinebiser officiating. Interment will be in the K of P Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
