Description	:	Marcella Elizabeth Bayne, 91, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2009, at Billings Clinic, following a short illness. Marcie was born on April 21, 1918, in Camden Point, Mo., to Marcellus and Clara Ballard. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Zimmerman, on a ranch west of Billings on what is now Grand Avenue. Read More	Marcella Elizabeth Bayne, 91, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2009, at Billings Clinic, following a short illness. Marcie was born on April 21, 1918, in Camden Point, Mo., to Marcellus and Clara Ballard. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Zimmerman, on a ranch west of Billings on what is now Grand Avenue. She attended public school in Billings and graduated from Billings High School in 1935. She then went on to Billings Polytechnic Institute, now known as Rocky Mountain College. On Nov. 5, 1940, she married her high school sweetheart, Ed Bayne. This surprised none of their schoolmates who had predicted as much when it was quite apparent early on that they were truly something special together. They were married for 62 years and were blessed with three devoted children: Ed, Jack and Marcia Lynn. Many of their adventures were interwoven with Ed's American Legion baseball coaching, but no truer words could ever be spoken then, "Behind every great man is a great woman." She and Ed were a constant by each other's side all through the years and Marcie rarely missed games and considered all the hundreds of players to be "her boys" and remembered them all. Marcie was a woman ahead of her time, first joining the workforce in the late '30s as a medical nurse. After raising her children, she worked as the Deputy Clerk of District Court for Yellowstone County. On the job for 21 years, she issued over 20,000 marriage licenses to couples and became affectionately known as the "Marriage License Lady." Working, raising children and being a fireman's wife surely took a special kind of toughness that she made look so graceful. She was involved in Eastern Star, Pink Ladies, Gray Ladies, Monday Ladies' Club, Jr. Woman's Club, Elks Ladies and Pioneers of Eastern Montana. She also volunteered many hours to Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, The Moss Mansion, McKinley Elementary PTA and American Legion Baseball. She was named American Legion Baseball Mother of the Year in 1969. She and Ed were also members of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. Always the lady, later in life Marcie enjoyed getting her hair done and dressing up for meals out and in home visits with her and Ed's many friends, young and old, from near and far. She also took great pleasure in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sports and school activities and continued to do so right into her 91st year. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed; brother Bryan Ballard; and sisters Ruth Ballard, Dorothy Smith and Margaret Bayne. She is survived by her children, Edwin (Diane) Bayne of Laurel, Jack (Claudia) Bayne of Billings, Marcia (Greg) Pehlke of Glasgow; her brother-in-law, Doug Bayne of Billings; and her grandchildren, Kim Townsend, Keri (Burke) Kufeld and children Kylie, Taylor, and Bailey, Christina (Chris) Bishop and children Brielle, Cierra, and Madison, Mike (Jessica) Pehlke and children Alexandra and Victoria, Mark (Kara) Bayne and children Halle, Jenna, and Ethan, DeAnna (Patrick) Price and children Kristian and Aiden, Melissa Bayne, Christy (Jesse) Ellerbee and children Austin and Addison, Kristi (Eric) Feit, Chelsey (Jeff) Halvorson and child Callie; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Fran Argani and Billings Clinic staff, Carol Heck, and Joel and Debbie Hawkins. Mom, you and Dad were the richest people in Billings when measured by the things that matter the most - the love of family and friends, faith and making a difference in people's lives. We love you. Memorials may be sent to The Eddie Bayne Memorial Fund for the Betterment of Youth in c/o Jack Bayne, 3711 Heritage Drive, Billings, MT 59102; The State Firefighters Memorial in c/o Laurel Fire Department, 215 W. First, Laurel, MT 59044; or a charity of your choice. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church located at 2800 Fourth Ave. N.
