Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue at the Church in Vienna after 9AM on Monday. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist with Evan Lamb as soloist. Honorary Casketbearers will be Milo Kolden, Larry & Rozann Buck, and Darrel & Jan Janssen. The active Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and spouses. Burial will follow in the Naples Lutheran Cemetery at Naples. Marcene Emaline Anderson was born on July 19, 1931 on a farm near Lake Norden, the daughter of Japhet and Mary (Hendrickson) Anderson. She attended country schools near Lake Norden and then graduated Lake Norden High School in 1949. Following high school, Marcene continued her education at General Beadle College in Madison and Black Hills State in Spearfish where she obtained her teaching certificate. She then taught for two years at country schools near Hayti. On August 30, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin Hanson at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, her home church. After a honeymoon to the Black Hills the couple lived with his parents, Arthur and Camilla Hanson in Foxton Township, for five years. They lived and farmed in various places in Foxton and Elrod Townships until settling in the old Landekill place in 1970. Melvin died in 2012. While living on the farm, Marcene worked out of the house as well, working the potato harvest for the Maynard family and then in 1979, she began a career working in several electronic factories including Maxiswitch at Erwin, Midcom, and OEM in Watertown, retiring at age 73. Marcene will long be remembered for her delicious doughnuts, raising a garden and canning, quilting, sewing, and all sorts of other baking. The coffee pot was always on and with fresh baked good, visiting was a favorite pastime as well. In recent years, her great-grandchildren brought her much joy. She was a longtime member of the Naples Lutheran Church and some 45 years ago they became members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Vienna. She had served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School, and she was active in a circle and the WELCA. She had served as Congregation President and was the go to person for many years as the chairperson of the funeral food committee. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Melvin, and a brother in infancy, Robert. Survivors include her children, Marvin (Michelle) Hanson of Sullivan, IL, Merl (Tammy) Hanson of Iroquois, Myron “Butch”(Laurie) Hanson of Vienna, and Marla (Russ) Althoff of Webster, 12 grandchildren, Kent, Travis, Mandy, Melissa, Brandon, Tracy, Emily, Jennifer, Sarah, Kellie, William, and Kevin and 8 great-grandchildren, Emaline, Sawyer, Asher, Anderson, Deacon, Joseph, Claire, and Eden Marcene. She also leaves a brother, Roger (Donna) Anderson of Lake Norden. - Furness Funeral Home
