Description	:	Joseph Beatty owned acreage along an old stagecoach road of which he sold 10 acres for one dollar to South Elrod Christian Church and Cemetery in 1890. The cemetery was plotted early after its purchase. No burial records were kept until 1911 when the caretaker and church clerk, Bill McElmurray began maintaining records, which he did for over 43 years. Many graves are children with their death rate high in the pioneer days. The blizzards of 1883 and 1889 also took a heavy toll.
