Description	:	Mardell Evenson, 89, of Eureka, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Saturday, December 28, 1996. She ws born June 7, 1907, at Eureka, the daughter of John and Ella (Stoddard) Hawthorne. A lifetime resident of Greenwood County. Mardell attended District 70 Grade School and was a graduate of Eureka High School in the Class of 1925. On May 18, 1932, Mardell was united in marriage to Charles Arne Evenson at Iola. They made their home in the Eureka area and Mardell was a homemaker. Mardell was a volunteer in many local organizations and causes, and was a member of the Methodist Church where she was involved in the ladies group of the church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilitary, the Social Hour Club the Golden Hour Club and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by three sons, Charles S. Evenson of Wichita; Jerry Evenson of El Dorado; Daryl Evenson of Eureka; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, one sister and one granddaughter. Graveside services and interment were held December 31 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka with Reverend Lynn Sifrit, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left at the church or sent in care of the Campbell-Kelly Funeral Home in Eureka, which was in charge of arrangements. From Eureka Herald January 1, 1997
