Donald Hunzeker officiating. *** Margaret was born January 26, 1926, in Franklin County, to Elmer J. and Myrtle V. (Schafer) Laux. She grew up near Upland and graduated from Minden High School. Margaret worked at the Hastings Ammunition Depot during World War II. On January 20, 1946, she married Gordon N. Mathiasen at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden. They made their home in Minden. Gordon died on July 31 of this year. Margaret was member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden and served as the church organist for many years. She also was active in the church circle and was a member of the Minden American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and canning. Survivors include her daughter, Nadine Hopkins and her husband, Alvin, of Minden; two grandchildren, Anthony Hopkins of Aurora, Colo., and Angela Spaulding and her husband, Clint, of Trumbull; one niece, Karen Wiegert and her husband, Keith; two nephews, Ronnie Nielsen and his wife, Barbara, and Lyle Nielsen and his wife, Alice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon.
