Description	:	May's gravestone shows her middle initial as "B." However, her official death record at the Wapello County Court House shows her middle name as Ann. I imagine the initial of her maiden name was used on the gravestone, as was often the custom in that era. Margaret married William Haskel Pate on May 7, 1882, in Wapello County. I do not know when he died, but in the 1900 Census, he is shown serving in Cuba in the United States Infantry. I have been unable to find any more information on Margaret's husband John Hooge. Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," December 16, 1918: MRS. MARGARET B. HOOGE Mrs. Margaret Burton Hooge died last evening at 7:30 o'clock at her home, 522 Wabash avenue, at the age of 53 years. She is survived by her husband, John Hooge, one daughter, Mrs. Lulu Hoffman, an aged mother, Mrs. Amanda Burton, two sisters, Mrs. Reta Swartzenbach and Mrs. Mollie Parcel and three brothers, William, Eugene, and David. The funeral will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home, the Rev. W.E. Prewitt of the South Side Baptist church officiating. Interment in Shaul cemetery.
