Aug 23, 1989 - Carroll Sentinel - This morning at 6:30 little Mina Kelly, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Kelly, died from the effects of lock-jaw. The loss is a terrible blow to the parents who were devotedly attached to the sweet little girl. Her death was sudden, as no one knew that she was complaining until Saturday evening when she said she had the tooth-ache. Her mother gave something for that and she rested nicely until morning. At the breakfast table she fainted away and became rigid. The doctor was summoned and the symptoms of that frightful disease, lock-jaw, was plainly noticable. From that time on until this morning she rapidly failed and medical skill could render no relief. About a week ago the little girl, while at play injured one of her feet. The skin was only slightly injured but the mother washed the wound and examined it and thought it of trifling importance. That was the last that was thought of it until yesterday. The deceased was an unusually sweet little girl and was dearly loved by her parents and playmates. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Joseph's church. Rev Father O'Connor will conduct the services. August 26, 1897 - Carroll Sentinel - The funeral of little Mina Kelly was held yesterday at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father O'Connor conducted the services. The remains were accompanied to the church by numerous friends who came to share the sorrows of the parents. Six little girls dressed in white acted us pall bearers and added solemnity to a peculiarly sad occasion. The deceased was one of those sweet little flowers that blossom all too soon to fade away and leave those who nearly idolized them the sadder for their departure. Like a sunbeam she lit up the home of the parents, but now that she is gone and without warning that home bowed with sorrow. Little Mina, like many others of her meek and loving disposition often spoke of death and said if she should die and go to heaven she feared she would be be lonesome for she would have no one to play with there, for she did not know but one little girl who was here. This she said when she was first taken sick which goes to illustrate the simplicity and purity of the little flower which has been transplanted from earth to bloom in a land that is fairer than this.
