J.J.C. Steele, of Waxhaw last Saturday the county loses one of its oldest and most beloved women. “She was stricken with paralysis about one week before her death and as she was 77 years old little hope was entertained for her recovery from the first.” “Mrs. Steele was before her marriage a Neely and she married Mr. H.G. Wilson in or about the year 1861. Immediately after the marriage Mr. Wilson joined the Confederate Army and was later killed in one of the most daring charges made in the War. “In the year 1868 she married Capt. J.J.C Steele of the lower part of Jackson township and has since lived happily with him. They were one of the oldest couples in Jackson township. Captain Steele is 82 years old and Mrs. Steele was 77 years old. “At the death of Mrs. Steele were assembled almost every one of her kin. Mr. R.H. Wilson came from Cleburne, Texas, before his mother’s death. Of the first union there were two children, Hugh and R.H. Wilson. Of the second union six children survive, Messrs, W.R., J.N., J.T., J.C., and S.L. Steele and Mrs. T.B. Hawfield of Pineville. “The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased and she was buried at Tirzah Presbyterian church, of which she had been a member since she was 15, giving her a membership of 52 years.
