Description	:	Margaret A. Bonar, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. James Bonar, was born Sept. 27, 1828, in Sangamon Co., Ill, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1843. She was united with the M. E. church at a camp meeting near Birmingham in 1845, of which she was a member for 70 years. She married William Hatch March 5, 1846. Her education was necessarily limited to her residence in Illinois, as she came to Iowa three years before it was admitted as a state. Bonar, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. James Bonar, was born Sept. 27, 1828, in Sangamon Co., Ill, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1843. She was united with the M. E. church at a camp meeting near Birmingham in 1845, of which she was a member for 70 years. She married William Hatch March 5, 1846. Her education was necessarily limited to her residence in Illinois, as she came to Iowa three years before it was admitted as a state. There were no public schools and very few private schools in the territory. The nearest house of worship was eight or nine miles away when not held in a private home, her father's house being used for this purpose very often, or until a church was built near Utica, near her home. Her husband took his young bride to the home farm where she lived as a wife and widow until she was eighty-four years of age. Then, getting quite feeble, she spent the rest of her declining years with her children. Seven children came to bless this union, three of whom preceded her to the great beyond, namely: Miriam Leffler, Martha Johnson and William Hatch. The remaining children are: Geo. Hatch of Cantril, Iowa; Sarah Howard of California; Lida Moore of Bentonsport, and John Hatch of Mt. Pleasant. Grandma Hatch was left a widow the spring of 1875, and had the care of the minor children and labored faithfully and lovingly for their welfare, and especially for her invalid son, John, for almost forty years. Being a descendant of hardy Scotch-irish parentage, she lived to a ripe age and hers was a well rounded out life. She was an affectionate wife, a devoted mother, a loyal friend and sincere Christian. Her death occured at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roe Moore of Bentonsport, March 3, 1915, being at her death aged eighty-six years, five months and six days. Funeral services were held at Miller's chapel, Friday, March 5, at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Stine of Stockport, assisted by Rev. Carroll of Hillsboro.
