He had lived here 40 years, previous to coming here he had lived in Monticello.He had farmed near Emmettsburg until retiring several years ago. Mr. an Mrs. Jacobs lived in a new home at 605 Lake Street the past three years He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.Mr. Jacobs died at Palo Alto Memorial Hospital Thursday. He had been a patient there since September 28th and had been in ill health for some time. He is survived by his wife Margaret, two sisters, Mrs. Laura Becker, San Marino. California; Mrs. Emma Weber of Long Beach, California; and one brother, C.C. Jacobs of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Following the service in the church the body was taken to the Foy-Ellsworth Funeral Home and Sunday Morning the body, accompanied by the immediate relatives, was taken by Earl Ellsworth to Monticello. Further rites were conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Arnlold Schuether officiating. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. --------------------- Monticello Express October 31, 1963 Margaret P. Jacobs- Mrs. Margaret p. Jacobs, widow of Lawrence R. Jacobs, died at John McDonald Hospital Saturday Morning, October 26 following an eight month illness. Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church with the rev. Anton Kirkegaard in charge. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Katherine Margaret Poppe was born Feb. 28, 1875 near Monticello the daughter of John Dietrich and Katherine Pageler Poppe. She was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. On Sept. 27, 1900 she was married to Lawrence R. Jacobs and the couple made their home in Monticello until 1919when they moved to Waterloo for a year and then purchased a dairy in Emmetsburg. In 1953 the couple retired and moved to a new home in Emmetsburg.
