Sister, Mrs. Anna Frerichs, survived her. ▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪ Lemars Globe Post Monday, January 14, 1935 Lemars, Iowa META SIEBELS IS CALLED SUDDENLY Pioneer Settler Suffers A Stroke Early Saturday Morning Suffering a stroke early Saturday morning, Mrs. Meta Siebels, pioneer settler of this community, passed away at her home Sunday morning, without regaining consciousness. At the time of her death she was 65 years, 6 months and 5 days of age. Deceased was apparently in good health and continued with her household duties up until she was stricken. Upon arising Saturday morning she suffered the stroke. Her granddaughter, Phyllis Wilde, heard her fall and went to her assistance. Deceased was born on July 8, 1869, in Marx, Germany, and at the age of five years she came to this country with her parents. The family settled in Jones county, Iowa, where they lived for three years before coming to Grant township to make their home. Deceased lived in this community ever since. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Deedrick Emmen(Ennen), the subject of this story was united in marriage to J. D. Siebels, on February 26, 1890, in Preston township. Mr. Siebels preceded his wife in death by 10 years. Sixteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Siebels retired from the farm and moved to Le Mars, where they built a nice home. Since the death of her husband she had visited amoung her two children and lived in her home. During the last year of her life she shared her home with her sister and several roomers, who regarded her as a splendid woman of fine character. Mrs. Siebels is survived by two children, Henry Siebels, of Grant township and Mrs. Lawrence Wilde, of Elgin township. She also leaves her sister, Mrs. Anna Frerichs and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the home and at 2 o’clock from St. John’s Lutheran church. Rev. J. J. Vollmar officiating. Burial will be made in the Le Mars cemetery. Mrs. Siebels was a familiar character in the neighborhood in which she lived. She devoted the last year of her life when she moved back into her home, in developing her yard and garden and spent many late hours working, in order to enjoy the fruit of the land. She was a good wife and mother and a faithful member of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of St. John’s ladies aid society and took an active part in promoting the interests of her church. Her death will be mourned by all her friends who enjoyed her acquaintance and admired her courage as a pioneer in developing this community. Lemars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Tuesday, January 15, 1935 Le Mars, Iowa Sudden Stroke Proves Fatal In Few Hours Mrs. Meta Siebels Was Resident of Plymouth County Since Girlhood Days Following a stroke she suffered at an early hour Saturday, Mrs. Meta Siebels, died Sunday morning. Mrs. Siebels was found in an unconscious condition, Saturday morning, by a grandchild, who was occupying the bedroom with her. A physician called gave no hope for her recovery and she passed away twenty-four hours later, death being due to cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Siebels had resided in Plymouth county since childhood and was well known in a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Meta Emmen was 66 years of age, and was born in Ost. Friesland, Germany, July 8, 1868. When she was a child five years old she came to America, with her parents, who settled in Jones county, Iowa, where they lived for three years and then came to Plymouth county, where she was educated and grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage, February 26, 1890, with Dick Siebels, and they farmed successfully in Grant township for many years. They moved to Le Mars in 1919. Mr. Siebels died July 15, 1925. Mrs. Siebels leaves to mourn her death a son, Henry Siebels, living on the home farm in Grant township and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Wilde, of Elgin township.
