Huffmaster Marriage Date: 28 Feb 1877 County: Washington State: AR OBITUARY--The Springdale News, Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas, April 6, 1923 HOLCOMB Mrs. Maggie Holcomb, 70 years of age, died Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock at the family home, four miles west of Springdale, the result of flu, pneumonia and pleurisy. She had been ill but a few days. On account of the illness of Mr. Holcomb, funeral services Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock were held at the home, conducted by Eld. Wm. Osburn of the Primitive Baptist church, of which deceased had long been a member. Burial was in the Bluff Cemetery, Springdale. Maggie Huffmaster was born near Rogersville, Tenn., February 21, 1853, and came with her parents to Springdale, February 14, 1870. Her father was the late R. M. Huffmaster, more familiarly known as "Uncle Dick" by the older residents of the community. February 28, 1877, she was united in marriage to Calvin Holcomb. Seven children were born to them, five sons and two daughters; all of whom survive except a daughter, Ethel, who died January 8, 1910. They are J. R. of Muskogee, Okla.; Mrs. Ellen Nicholds, wife of Scott Nicholds of Garfield, Benton County; Roy of Tenio, Wash.; Frank, Hugh and Ernest, who reside near the old home place. All were present when their mother passed away except Roy. Besides the husband and children deceased is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Annis Nelson, Mrs. Sallie Cavness, Miss Ida Huffmaster, and two brothers, Walk and John Huffmaster, all of whom reside in or near Springdale. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Holcomb began the work of building a home on a portion of the 207-acre farm of the former's father, the late Wm. H. Holcomb. Practically all the land was in timber, but with untiring industry the young couple went to work and through the succeeding years made for themselves a home where their children were born and reared, and where they have continuously resided. "She hath done what she could." Aspiring to no great things, this good woman has devoted her life to her home, her husband and her children. Contentment marked her daily walk in life and to be a good wife and mother was a virtue and natural asset for her.
