Description	:	Margaret Elizabeth Freeze was born in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, on September 27, 1854, the 8th child of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. She was also the granddaughter of George and Susanna Bowers Freeze, early settlers of the Thurmont area. On January 1, 1874, she married Lewis Isaac Keefer, also of Thurmont. They were the parents of 3 daughters: Mary Susan, Linnie May and Florence Emma Keefer. Keefer and Margaret Elizabeth Freeze in my possession: "Certificate of Marriage. This certifies that, on the 1st day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy four Mr. Lewis I. Keefer of Frederick County, Maryland and Miss Maggie E. Freeze of the same state and county were by me united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony at near Mechanicstown, Maryland in the presence of the following witnesses: (no witnesses given). Jacob Summers, Pastor of Luth. Church at Mechanicstown, Maryland." Obituary for Margaret Freeze Keefer, probably from the Catoctin Clarion Newspaper, January, 1927: "SUICIDE VICTIM BURIED. Thurmont Woman Dies From Taking Paris Green. Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Keefer, 72 years of age, widow of the late Lewis Keefer died at her home in Thurmont at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the effects of a large dose of Paris Green. She had been despondent for some time and on several occasions threatened to take her life. She arose between 6 and 7 o'clock Friday morning and while her daughter, Miss Mary Keefer, with whom she lived, was ill in bed, found a package of Paris Green under the porch. She mixed about a spoonful and a half in some water and swallowed the dose. Immediately after taking the poison she went to the home of her sister, Mrs. Allen Eyler, a short distance away, and informed her that she had taken the poison. A physician, who was quickly summoned, worked for some time to relieve the woman. She became ill, however, and died early in the afternoon. The poison, which had been kept in the house, was secreted under the porch, for fear she would attempt to carry out threats she previously made. It is not known how she discovered its hiding place. Besides her daughter at home and another daughter, Mrs. Edgar Fogle, also of Thurmont, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eyler and Mrs. HenryHetterly of Thurmont, and one brother, Jacob Freeze, of Graceham. The funeral took place from her late home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with services by Rev. W. F. Kohler, pastor of the United Brethren Church, assisted by Rev. J. A. Brosius, pastor of the Lutheran church. Interment was made in the United Brethren Cemetery, Willhide and Creager, funeral directors."
