Death was due to dropsy. Mrs. Leigh was born near Ashville, N.C., June 11, 1853, and at the close of the Civil struggle moved with her parents from the South to near Cherokee. Death was due to dropsy. Mrs. Leigh was born near Ashville, N.C., June 11, 1853, and at the close of the Civil struggle moved with her parents from the South to near Cherokee. She later was married to Sam E. Leigh, the ceremony taking place April 15, 1875. Mr. Leigh died three years ago. Mrs. Leigh was a charter member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges in Cherokee, transferring to Girard, when she moved there in 1902. She was an active worker in the Presbyterian church. Surviving Mrs. Leigh are the following relatives: The one daughter, Mrs. Gerkin; a brother, D.A. Payne, San Francisco; two sisters, Mrs. L.M. Scott, Hastings, Okla., and Mrs. J.W. Kelso, Cherokee, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Roy G. Messenger, Girard. Funeral services were conducted from Mrs. Gerken's residence, 121 North Ozark, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Frank A Johnson, pastor of the local Presbyterian church conducted the services. Burial was in the Cherokee cemetery. The Rebekah lodge had charge of funeral services at the home and the Eastern Star at the grave.
