She was born on 2 June 1930 in Seattle to George and Myra Steele. "It was after the death of her mother that her and her father moved to this area and where Margaret graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1948. She married Robert Matheson on 26 June 1948 and together they raised their four children in the Port Hadlock area. She contracted polio in December of 1950 at the age of 30 and would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. "She was fiercely independent because of this and her accomplishments over the years were truly amazing. But she always let it be known that she could not have done any of it without the help of her husband, family, numerous relatives and friends and that she was the lucky one to be so blessed. She was involved in all the school activities while her children were at Chimacum and afterwards worked many years for the district as a Chapter 1 Aide. "She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church and always considered it as her second home. She relied on God for guidance and wanted to serve and help anyone that she could. She devoted her entire life to her family and the church and many of her achievements were acknowledged by the community with awards over the years. She had a positive impact on the children and organizations she touched and will be missed by many. "Margaret is survived by her husband, Bob, of 70 years; her daughter Debby of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughter Linda and her husband, Don, of Everett, Washington; her son Rick and his wife, Kat, of Carson City Nevada; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mosher and Bernice Matheson of Port Hadlock, Washington; Darlene Otta of Hillsboro, Oregon and Carol Elerding of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. "Margaret was preceded in death by her oldest son, Bob Matheson, who passed away in 2016."
