Aged Resident of This City is Called by Death Mrs. Jasper Sparks Was a Patient Sufferer During her Years of Invalidism After a period of invalidism during part of which time Mrs. Jasper Sparks was unable to help herself she was called and passed quietly into the presence of her heavenly father January 17, 1941. Coming early Mrs. Sparks was numbered among the pioneer residents of the county. She was a devoted mother and friend to her family. She was interested in the affairs of the community. She was gracious and Christian in her attitude. Margaret, daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Gregory was born in West Virginia March 10, 1860 and died at her home in St. Paul, Neb. January 17, 1941, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and seven days. Her parents came to Nebraska in the early ‘70's and homesteaded on land near the present town of Elba. Miss Gregory was married to Jasper Sparks here in St. Paul in 1875 and to this union were born ten children, five of whom have preceded the mother in death. Mr. Sparks passed away July 22, 1931. He had operated a dray line for many years and then turned to the occupation of painting. Mr. and Mrs. Sparks could have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1925. Mrs. Sparks was a fine Christian character, patient, cheerful, optimistic, kind and generous. Perhaps Herman Sparks, Upland, Calif.[ ity ] (A line is missing from the obit) have endured bodily discomfort as she has — for many years she was unable to walk about the home due to arthritis and used a chair with rollers on it — this was the means of locomotion even while Mr. Sparks was needing her attention. During the late years she was rendered almost helpless with hands that could scarcely move and limbs that were drawn and twisted and this required her to be fed. But through all this affliction there was never a word of complaint and she maintained a sweet Christian spirit all the time. She was willing to resign her condition to the wisdom of the Heavenly Father and quietly and patiently awaited His call. Those remaining to mourn her passing are the following children, Herman Sparks, Upland, Calif., Leonard Sparks, Hasty, Colorado, Ray Sparks, Rabenden Springs, Arkansas, George Sparks, Venice, California, and Mrs. Effie E. Madison of Council Bluffs, Iowa. There are 24 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. One of these, Jerry, was a great comfort to her during the past years. He has a job now in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were held from the Keating Mortuary Monday afternoon, with Rev. Wm. J. Primrose in charge of the services. Burial was made in Elmwood cemetery. The Phonograph joins in extending condolences to the bereved children in their sorrow.
