Three days previous to her death, pneumonia set in, Mrs. Mahoney was born in county Cork, Ireland, October 20, 1832, her maiden name being Margaret Flynn she was married in Ireland to James Mahoney in 1856, Three children were born to them there. The family came to the United States in 1884, lived at Hamilton Illinois where Mr. Mahoney was yard Master for the Wabash railroad for several years. He came to Butler county and filed on a homestead in Section 12, - Skull Creek township. He purchased 320 acres of In section 12, Skull Creek which he paid $2.75 per acre and developed a fine farm. In all, ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney. Two died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Margaret Beecham died at Palmyra in 1914. The surviving children are Michael Mahoney who was the first banker in Bruno, founder the Bruno State Bank, now residing in San Jose, California, T. F. Mahoney of Bremerton, Wash., W. J. Mahoney, of Kearney, Mrs. Daniel Powers, of Ulysses, James P. Mahoney and John F. Mahoney, of Palmyra, and Mrs. C. F. Leppert, of Omaha. Mr. Mahoney died in 1889, on the home farm in Skull Creek township and was buried in St, Mary cemetery, David City. In March, 1908, Mrs. Mahongy moved to Palmyra, Otoe county. She was a member at St. Leos church of Palmyra. There are also left to mourn her going forty two grand children and twenty two great grandchildren. With the exception of two sons who reside on the Pacific coast, the surviving children were all at her bedside when death came. The deceased was a woman of sweet and winning personality, a devote catholic, affectionate wife and loving mother. A host of friends unite in extending condolence to the bereaved loved ones who will miss her gentle presence. The funeral services were held at St. Marys Catholic church at Ulysses Wendesday morning December 30, mass was selebrated for the repose her sole, the Rev. Fathers Loughran of Ulysses and Reddy of Bellwood and Shanagher of Palmyra officiating- Father Shanagher, her paster delivered the sermon. At the ressional Mr.C. F. Leppert and John Powers rendered "Mother Dear Remember Me" very impressively. The pall bearers were six grandsons of Mrs. Mahoney, they were Adali Powers, Leo Powers, Walter Mahoney, James Mahoney, William Beecham and Francis Leppert. Internment was made at the side of her husband in St. Mary's cemetery at David City. Life we've been long together through sunshine and through cloudy weather.
