Margaret was born in Union County, N.C. on Oct. 12, 1918, and was the daughter of the late George Lofton Goodwin and Edna Maria Williams Goodwin of Mineral Springs, N.C. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Callie Franklin King. They married April 12, 1941 in Chester, S.C. and have lived in Mineral Springs for 63 years. Margaret was born in Union County, N.C. on Oct. 12, 1918, and was the daughter of the late George Lofton Goodwin and Edna Maria Williams Goodwin of Mineral Springs, N.C. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Callie Franklin King. They married April 12, 1941 in Chester, S.C. and have lived in Mineral Springs for 63 years. Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Lina Ruth Goodwin Moss and her two brothers, Russell Laney Goodwin and George William (Bill) Goodwin. She retired in 1984 as Payroll Supervisor after 30 years of service with Perfect Fit Industries, Monroe, N.C. Before retirement, Margaret was an active member of the Monroe Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a devoted member of Mineral Springs United Methodist Church and served in many offices including 40 years as the Church Treasurer. She loved her Sunday School Class and her friend, Edie, who served as their teacher for many years. Margaret was an avid volunteer in Union County and delivered "Meals on Wheels" for 20 years. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the drama, "Listen and Remember" in Waxhaw, N.C. and served on the Board of Directors of the Waxhaw Drama Association. Margaret loved her Tent #4, which she called "the Jewel" at Pleasant Grove Campground, where her family reunions are held each year during Camp meeting. She loved working in the yard, where she built her rock wall and also built an addition to the recreation room from the lumber of her parents' home. Margaret truly enjoyed her garden of vegetables, which she would can and freeze each year. Her pride and joy were her two children—Teresa and Wayne. Margaret's proudest moment was in 2010 when her son, Wayne, was made Potentate of the Oasis Shrine in Charlotte, N.C. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at Mineral Springs United Methodist Church, 5915 Old Waxhaw-Monroe Rd., Mineral Springs, (Monroe, NC) Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet family and friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Mineral Springs United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mineral Springs United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Mineral Springs, NC 28108. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralservice.com.
