MARGARET HINDLEY DEAD Mrs. Margaret Hindley, one of the best known pioneer women of Humboldt county, passed away yesterday morning about six o'clock at her home in Ferndale after an illness of ten days with heart trouble and pneumonia. Mrs. Margaret Hindley was born in Wisconsin on July 16, 1852, her maiden name being Margaret Holman. With her parents she came to California in 1856, the family settling in Weaverville, Trinity county. There she was married on December 25, 1866, to George Hindley, and in the early '70's they came to Humboldt county and took up their residence in the Mattole valley, where they made their home continuously until Mr. Hindley was elected Supervisor about twenty years ago. They then moved to Ferndale, where Mrs. Hindley had since lived. Her husband passed away about three years ago. Decedent is survived by the following sons and daughters: George L. Hindley of Scotia, Mrs. Walter Hackett of Grizzly Bluff, Mrs. Walter Reishus of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Ernest Hindley of Ferndale, Mrs. George Lindley of Upper Mattole, Mrs. Martin Waddington of Waddington, Mrs. Joseph Keating of Oakland, Dr. Joseph Hindley of Ferndale, and Henry Hindley, now with the American troops occupying a part of Germany. She also leaves a brother, R. M. Holman, of Ferndale, and a sister, Mrs. T. P. Harkey, of Fortuna. Mrs. Hindley was prominent in social and fraternal circles of Ferndale, being a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs and Pythian Sisters. She was loved by a large circle of friends and the news of her death is received with deep sorrow. To the bereaved relatives the heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out. No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made, pending the arrival of Mr.s Reishus, who is now on her way form Minnesota and who is expected to arrive tomorrow or Sunday.
