She was born in Big Timber on November 13, 1920, the daughter of Percy and Della Webb. She graduated from Helena High School in 1937 and the University of Montana at Missoula in 1943. She taught school in Forsyth and both the Melville and Settlement schools in rural Sweet Grass County. Read More	Big Timber Pioneer, 14 February 14, 1990 Margaret Jo Lavold, 69, passed away Friday night at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She was born in Big Timber on November 13, 1920, the daughter of Percy and Della Webb. She graduated from Helena High School in 1937 and the University of Montana at Missoula in 1943. She taught school in Forsyth and both the Melville and Settlement schools in rural Sweet Grass County. Jo taught school at Sweet Grass County High School for 23 years. while teaching at SGHS she was cheerleader advisor for 18 years and accompanied her Spanish class on three trips to Mexico and one trip to Spain. She married Sigurd Lavold on September 29, 1945, at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Big Timber. They lived on the ranch near Melville until his death in 1967 at which time Jo moved into Big Timber. In 1973 she was named Montana teacher of the year. She loved her family and all of her students. She enjoyed bridge and was currently a member of two clubs. She was an avid golfer and had served on the Overland Golf Course Board. She was currently a member of the Sweet Grass County Commissioners, the Big Timber Womens Club, Republican Women, Order of Eastern Star, T-Bone Cowbelles, Delta Gamma Sorority, the Big Timber Delta Kappa Gamma, the Big Timber Lutheran Church, all of which she was a member of the church choir and had taught Sunday School. She had served on the Big Timber City Council, the Big Timber Grade School Board of Trustees, the Republican Central Committee, was instrumental in organizing the Rainbow Girls and had been active on their advisory board, served as district president of Maco, was a board member of the South Central Regional Mental Health Center, the Civic Center Commission, and the Sweet Grass Community Hospital board. The family has requested memorials to be given to the Sweet Grass Community Hospital or the Overland Golf Course. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Henderson of Missoula; one son, Tully of Brooklyn, New York; a grandaughter, Markida Henderson of Missoula; and several nieces. Memorial services were held at the Big Timber Lutheran Church on Tuesday morning at 11:00. The Reverend James Holmlund and former pastor Ocee Johnson of Billings officiated. The Big Timber Lutheran church choir and Mr. James Bratvold, soloist, were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Leslie Schiele and John Novotny on the guitar. Contributor: Julia Kinsey (48922386) •
