In 1933, Margaret and Lawrence started a band and played all the local dances until their marriage on January 2, 1935 in Lacombe. They homesteaded in the Lockhart district and in later years moved to Rimbey and then to Bentley and finally settled in Red Deer in 1956. In addition to her many church related activities, Margaret served as Secretary-Treasurer of Sunday schools at Bentley United Church. Margarets great passion was dancing, which she enjoyed and participated in all her life. She and Lawrence wintered in Arizona for 12 years, where they took up square dancing and round dancing. Not only did they dance 3 nights a week, but Margaret wanted to practice every day as well. She also enjoyed traveling, which she did extensively. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Lawrence Greif; her two sons Barton (Beverly) of Calgary and Marlowe (Evlyn) of Perth, Australia; son-in-law Cliff Budd of Ponoka; 5 grandchildren, Terrill Budd, Michelle Thibeau, Steven Budd (Kelly), Michael Greif and Charlie Greif; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her brothers, John, Lawrence and Elmer Calkins, her daughter Marlene Budd, as well as two granddaughters, Laurel Noble and Tracy Peters. Funeral Services will be held at the Bentley United Church on Tuesday, December 16, 2003. at 1:00 pm, Rev. Raymond Goodship officiating.
