On Oct. 8, 1913, she married Charles E. PYLE, who died on April 14, 1971. She attended Northwestern University and was an accomplished musician. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist church and a charter member of the Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority. She was a founder and charter member of the Rochester Country Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Mary) MOORE and Mrs. H.C. (Margaret) HERKLESS, both of Rochester; three grandchildren, Mrs. Dale IJulia) SCHOEDER, Columbus; Charles S. HERKLESS, Tequesta, Fla.; Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) SCHLEIGER, Eden Prairie, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Bill and John SCHOEDER, Lesslie SCHLEIGER. Preceding in death were one brother, Don PLANK Sr. and one sister Mrs. Frank (Anna) ENSIGN. Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery with the Rev. Pyle Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today for Margaret Kilbourne PLANK PYLE who died at 7 p.m. Friday at the Life Care Center, three months shy of her 102nd birth anniversary. Born here Sept. 29, 1892, she had resided in her longtime home at 216 East 11th Street until entering the Care Center Aug. 1, 1993. Mrs. Pyle's family was among Rochester's earliest settlers and its members compiled an unbroken span of 126 years in the city's mercantile business. That period began in 1853 with her grandfather, Dr. Asa K. PLANK. Dr. Plank came here that year as a practicing physician, giving up the profession to establish one of the city's first pharmacies. During the Civil War he recruited Company F of the 87th Indiana Infantry Regiment in 1962, became its captain and was with it at the battle of Perryville, Ky. At his death in 1887 his drug store was located where another still is today, Webb's Family Pharmacy. His son and Mrs. Pyle's father, Charles K. PLANK, was a boot and shoe merchant who operated the Hoosier Shoe Store many years on Main Street, where Dollar General is now. He died in 1941. Mrs. Pyles husband, Charles E. [PYLE], was a partner and then owner of The Racket, men's clothing store, from 1918 until his death April 14, 1971. The Racket opened in space now occupied by Farmers and Merchants Bank, moved to the present Rarick's Rent-to-Own room and then for many years was at today's location of The Winning Edge. The business continued to be operated by the Pyles' daughters and their husbands until closing in 1979. Mary "Minnie" BRACKETT PLANK, Mrs. Pyle's mother, descended from another of Rochester's earliest and most prominent families. Her father, Dr. Charles J. BRACKETT, came here in 1848 as one of the county's first physicians. He enlisted in the Union Army shortly after the Civil War began, dying of illness in 1863 while on duty as a regimental surgeon in Arkansas. A brother, James [BRACKETT], also was a local physician. Mrs. Pyle was an accomplished musician. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1910 and attended Northwestrn Universiy. She was the last living 1917 charter member of Rochester's Tri Kappa sorority and the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church. She and her husband, whom she married Oct. 8, 1913, were among the founders of the Rochester Country Club, now the Elks Lodge. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Mary K.) MOORE and Mrs. H.C. (Margaret) HERKLESS, both of Rochester. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Mrs. Dale (Julia) SCHROEDER, Columbus, Ind. C. Steven HERKLESS, Jupiter, Fla., and Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) SCHLEIGER, Eden Prairie, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Bill and John SCHROEDER and Leslie SCHLEIGER. Preceding in death were one brother, Don PLANK Sr., and one sister, Mrs. Frank (Anna) ENSIGN. The Rev. Junior BOSE officiated at the I.O.O.F. cemetery service with Zimmerman Family Funeral Home in charge. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Rochester.
