Margaret Louise Omstead was born April 19, 1907 to William Tecumseh and Catherine [Brantwaite] Ashburn near Lamoni, Iowa. She passed away on April 22, 2007, just days after celebrating her 100th birthday. Margaret was joined in marriage with John Kenneth Omstead on July 10, 1927. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union: Kenneth Billie, Keith Eugene, Kevin Donald, Marlene, and Myrna. Margaret lived most of her years in the Lamoni area. After traveling with their two sons while John worked helping to build U.S. Highway 69 down through Oklahoma, they settled back in Lamoni in 1932. She was busy as a homemaker, mother, and later as a dedicated grandmother. She was a baptized member of the R.L.D.S. Church and remained faithful through her life. She volunteered at her church and taught Sunday School. She also served as a co-scout leader. She was an expert seamstress. Her summers were spent preserving the abundance of vegetables and fruits produced in John's garden. When her health failed, she moved into the Lamoni Nursing Home where she received loving care by the staff and comfort from her faithful and loving roommate, Doris Reed, for the remainder of her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers and their wives: Bob Ashburn and Erma, Monroe Ashburn and Velva, and Frances Ashburn and Inez; two year old sister Marie; husband, John Omstead on January 16, 1992; and three sons: Kenneth, Keith, and Kevin Kevin; Suzanne Omstead; Omstead. Survivors include her daughters: Marlene Birlingmair and David of Ames, Iowa and Myrna Morris and Russell of Lamoni; 13 grandchildren: Roxanna Crawford and Bob Shafer; Dianna Haururm; Luanne Utterback and Shawn Birlingmair and Dana; Kimberly Hoover; Douglas Birlingmair and Laura; Michelle Morris; Sheryl Morris; Michael Morris; Patrick Morris and Becki; Jordan Omstead; Katie Venter; Heather Haurum; Ryan Hentz Natasha Morris; Joe, Michael, and Noah Birlingmair; Travis, Kaleb and Adam Hoover; Joshua and Jack Birlingmair; and Cade Lane; and one great, great granddaughter Ann Kirton.
