Description	:	On Sunday Morning, January 9, 1921 occurred the death of Mrs. George Hewit in Waukon, Iowa at the advanced age of eighty one years. Margaret Lucy St. Clair was born February 15, 1839 at Waterford, Erie County, Pennsylvania. When a child the family moved to Ohio and settled on a farm on the bank of Lake Erie, later moving to a farm in Dodge County Wisconsin. Read More	On Sunday Morning, January 9, 1921 occurred the death of Mrs. George Hewit in Waukon, Iowa at the advanced age of eighty one years. Margaret Lucy St. Clair was born February 15, 1839 at Waterford, Erie County, Pennsylvania. When a child the family moved to Ohio and settled on a farm on the bank of Lake Erie, later moving to a farm in Dodge County Wisconsin. On May 25, 1858 she was married to George Hewit at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1863 they moved to Lansing, Iowa, and a year later to Waukon,Ia. which place has been her home since. Nine Children were born to them, Herman A. of Minneapolis, MN.; Sarah Jane, who died in infancy at Lansing, Iowa in 1863; Mrs. J. A. Markley and Mrs D. Sherman of Waukon, Iowa; George O. of Wisconsin; Leonard O. who died in infancy at Waukon in 1874; Lida E. of Waukon, Iowa; Mrs George Adams of Lamont, Iowa; Daisy Clara, who died when she was 7 years of age at Waukon, Iowa in 1888. Mrs Hewit not only reared her own children but also two children born to her husand by a former marriage, his former wife having died April 25, 1858, in Wisconsin. These children were Mrs. R.F.Bathen of Riceville, Iowa and Edgar F. Hewit of Sacramento, California, who received the same mother love and devotion as did her own children. Mrs Hewit leaves thirteen grandchildren; Earl and Lew Hewit of Minneapolis; Bert Hewit of Duluth,MN.; Frank Hewit of St. Paul, MN.; Mrs. Roy Holbrook of Riceville, Iowa; Mrs Charles Taylor of Chicago, Illinois; Earl and Edgar Markley of Waukon, Iowa; Leonard Sherman of Waukon, Iowa; Mrs Ray Hockabout of Sacramento. California; Mrs Ed Geesman of Minneapolis, MN.; Mabel and Marjorie Adams of Lamont, Iowa. Also seven great-grandchildren; Jean, Paul and Edgar Hockabout of Sacramento, California; Doris Geesaman of Minneapolis, MN.; Harold and Mildred Holbrook of Riceville, Iowa; James Hewit Markley of Waukon, Iowa. Mrs Hewit was a long time resident of Allamakee county coming here in pioneer days. She was one of those women of noble character who made many friends and kept them. Her declining years were spent with her children here at Waukon where she was surrounded by those beautiful friendships of many years standing. Remains were laid away in beautiful Oakland cemetery.
