She passed away on June 23, 2009, in San Luis Obispo after a short illness. A longtime resident of Heritage Ranch, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, in 2000. Blanche is survived by her three children; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Blanche was born on a cattle ranch. As a young girl, she developed a lifelong love of animals. As was the norm in those years, all children had to do chores to keep the ranch working and Blanche was no different. As a young adult, she attended a college and received training as a stenographer. She loved to ride horses and it was this love that led her to meet her future husband. In 1940, one of the horses she was riding had eaten some "loco weed" and went crazy while she was in the saddle. A wild galloping horse, out of control, was stopped and she was rescued by a stranger out fishing. That stranger turned out to be Lester Coil, who apparently liked what he saw because he was at her ranch the next day asking for a date. They were married in January 1941. By 1943, there was World War II, a 2-year-old Lester, Jr. and her husband in the Navy, fighting in the Pacific. Blanche did what she could to be as near to her husband as possible. Hence, she moved to Seattle, Wash., to work at Bremerton Naval Base and then to San Francisco to work at Mare Island Naval facility. After the war ended, Blanche, along with her husband, junior and a new daughter, Lynn, were back living in Montana. Soon, there was a new addition to the family, daughter Janet. The next several years were spent traveling/moving to various work locations. Missouri, and then the "oil wildcatting" years, which entailed many, many moves to locations best described as new frontiers. Blanche displayed the determination and grit needed to keep her family functioning during these very difficult times. She never complained and always managed to make things work regardless of the difficulty. After the "wildcatting" years, California beckoned and Blanche started working as a secretary/bookkeeper. She excelled at this occupation and bookkeeping became her profession. Several years in Canoga Park, then several more years in Las Vegas, then a move to Mariposa, where Blanche worked for the school district until she retired in 1986. After several years in Mariposa, she and her husband moved to Heritage Ranch, where she spent the majority of her free time helping others by delivering "Meals on Wheels" and acting as the treasurer of her local church. This activity lasted until physical ailments limited her ability to do the work. In 2000, her husband passed away and Blanche moved to Paso Robles to be near her daughter, Lynn. The story ends with the gradual encroachment of dementia and terminates with a brief illness brought on by a heart attack. Blanche was a Christian woman with the strength of Atlas, determination to do the right thing and the grit and spunk to make it happen.
