Wheatcraft of Reasnor, died at the home of her nephew, Mr. O. S. Wheatcraft, on West Main Street of this city, on Wednesday, March 6th, her age being 68 years, 7 months and six days. Mrs. Wheatcraft had been a sufferer for some time, and on the 14th of February, she came up from Reasnor to the home of her nephew, so that she might be near her physician while taking treatment. However her condition was beyond earthly remedies, and in spite of the tender care and ministrations of her physician and loved ones, she passed away just after noon on Wednesday last, her husband and children being at her bedside. Margaret Oberlies was born at Wilksbury, Pennsylvania, June 29, 1844. In 1856, when she was but 12 years of age, she came, with her parents, to Jasper County, settling in the Galesburg neighborhood. At the age of 18 on Christmas day, 1862, she was united in marriage with D. H. Wheatcraft, with whom she had lived happily for over forty-nine years, when death severed the tenderest and strongest of earthly ties. Seven of their splendid family of sons and daughters survive the mother, as a comfort to their bereaved father – James Wheatcraft of Killduff, John of Colfax, Grant of Newton, Mrs. Nettie Smoke near Reasnor, Mrs. Debbie Kirkpatrick of Newton, Mrs. Ella Wasson near Reasnor, and Miss Delia Wheatcraft, still in the parental home. She also leaves three brothers and one sister – Lewis Oberlies near Newton, George Oberlies of Cambridge, Nebraska, and Mrs. Mary Bankson of San Diego, California. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren. She joined the M. E. Church at Mt. Zion 45 years ago, of which she as a faithful member until called to the "Church Triumphant." She as one of the best of wives and mothers, and was loved by all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Reasnor Friday morning conducted by the pastor. Rev. F. S. Seeds. There was a large attendance of old neighbors and friends, many beautiful flowers attesting the love and esteem of those who had known her intimately for so many years. Interment was in the Hewett Cemetery. ~Newspaper unknown, dated 1912.
