Description	:	Margaret Ruth Houck was born May 10, 1910, near Garden Grove to George Washington and Sarah Effie Smith Jennings and died Aug. 22, 1994, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 84. She went by the name "Ruth" from childhood. She attended school at Garden Grove until the family moved to North Dakota for a short time. She returned to Van Wert in 1928 with her brother, William, who managed a hardware store on main street. She married Elmer DeWitt Houck in 1929 and the couple became the parents of 10 children. She was 84. She went by the name "Ruth" from childhood. She attended school at Garden Grove until the family moved to North Dakota for a short time. She returned to Van Wert in 1928 with her brother, William, who managed a hardware store on main street. She married Elmer DeWitt Houck in 1929 and the couple became the parents of 10 children. She lived in Van Wert until 1976 when she moved to Leon. Mrs. Houck lived in Leon and then moved to Osceola in 1982. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She had kind words for everyone and never complained. She liked to read, listen to music, work on crafts and crochet. She especially enjoyed being with her family. Mrs. Houck was baptized at the Leon Church of Christ in 1942 and attended there and Van Wert. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, two sons, Donald and Duane, three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Houck is survived by four sons, Dean Houck and his wife, Alta Houck, of Leon; Daryl Houck and his wife, Emma Lou Houck, of Garland, Texas; Dennis Houck and his wife, Betty Houck, of Weldon and Dale Houck and his wife, Rene Houck, of Steelville, MO; four daughters, Beverly Johnson and her husband, Bob Johnson, of Rogers, AR; Bonita Edwards and her husband, Shannon Edwards, Jr. of Des Moines; Barbara Merrick and her husband, Harry Merrick, of Cedar Rapids and Dena Fulton and her husband, Jim Fulton, of Osceola; a daughter-in-law, Donna Houck of Omaha, NE; 43 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Houck were Aug. 24, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Pastor Dale Short officiating. The organist was Vicki Saxton who played The Old Rugged Cross. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Chris Houck, Greg Houck, Nick Houck, Russ Houck, Jon Houck, Brian Houck, Doug Houck and Eddie Edwards. Interment was in the Van Wert Cemetery.
