She was born in Surry County on August 28, 1921 to the late Charlie and Eunice Haymore Reeves. She was a homemaker and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Together, Mrs. Barker and her husband owned and operated The Canteen on Main Street in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Barker was a gracious warm hearted person who made everyone feel loved and special. Airy passed away at Central Continuing Care Sunday, April 27, 2014. She was born in Surry County on August 28, 1921 to the late Charlie and Eunice Haymore Reeves. She was a homemaker and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Together, Mrs. Barker and her husband owned and operated The Canteen on Main Street in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Barker was a gracious warm hearted person who made everyone feel loved and special. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband, Caleb Archie Barker; her daughter, Mae Margaret Barker; three brothers, Randall, Leonard T. and Clyde Reeves and a niece, Linda Reeves Simmons. Mrs. Barker will be remembered by her sister-in-law, Frances Jessup Reeves; three nephews, Tom Reeves, Roger Reeves, Doug Reeves, and special great nephew, Tucker Reeves; a niece, Sandra Reeves Seal; a special niece, Maudie Ramsey and family; several great nieces and nephews; her extended family, Donna Hiatt and Kandis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Wayburn Mosley and Bro. Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Margaret Barker to Holly Springs Baptist Church, 396 Holly Springs Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all the exceptional care and support given to Mrs. Barker, and also to, Donna Hiatt, Maudie Ramsey and family friend, Mike Sievers for the love and support they willingly gave.
