A native of York, she was daughter of the late Dr. Samuel L. and Mamie Shafer Steele. She attended Winthrop College and graduated from Limestone College. She retired from Union County School System, having taught in the elementary schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Women of the Church Circle No. 1 and Foster-Crawford Sunday school class. Read More	UNION - Margaret Steele Estes, 84, of 111 Douglass Heights died Feb. 19, 2000, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native of York, she was daughter of the late Dr. Samuel L. and Mamie Shafer Steele. She attended Winthrop College and graduated from Limestone College. She retired from Union County School System, having taught in the elementary schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Women of the Church Circle No. 1 and Foster-Crawford Sunday school class. She was a member of Friday Book Club and a past member of the Board of Visitors of Presbyterian College. She was a charter member of both the Union Cotillion Club and the Lioness Club, which had named her Lioness of the Year. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Lemuel Estes Jr.; a daughter, Margaret E. McCanless of Greenville; a son, Thomas Lemuel Estes III of Saginaw, Mich.; two granddaughters; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Van Edington. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 101 W. South St., Union, 29379; or to Shannon Forest Christian School Building Fund, 829 Garlington Road, Greenville, 29615; or to Presbyterian College, Clinton, 29325. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home of Union is in charge of arrangements.
