April 2, 1941 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. Joseph Winthouser, a resident of Carroll county for fifty eight years, died of heart disease at her home, 209 North Court Street at 5 o'c1ock this morning. Although she had been in impaired health for a long time the illness which claimed her life was of only three days duration. Mrs. Winthouser passed away six weeks after the death of her husband, which occurred Feb. 18, 1941. The body will be returned from the Dietrich Funeral Home to the family residence early Thursday afternoon, to repose there until the time of the services. Rites will be at 9 o'clock Friday morning at St. Joseph's Church, of which Mrs. Winthouser was a member. The requiem mass will be offered by the Rt. Rev. Monsignor P.T. Lynch. Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Winthouser was born Margaret Zenner, daughter of Peter and Anna Zenner, at Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois, May 31, 1858. She was one of a family of ten children. At DeKalb, Illinois, she married Joseph Winthouser Dec. 7, 1880. Mr. and Mrs. Winthouser came to Carroll county from Illinois in the spring of i883 to make their home on a farm south of Glidden, where they lived until 1912. At that time they retired and moved into the town of Glidden, having come to Carroll from Glidden ten years ago. Mrs. Winthouser is survived by two sons and one daughter: Fred Winthouser of Carroll and William Winthouser of Glidden, and Mrs. Herschel White (Gertrude), of Des Moines; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters: Joseph Zenner, Des Moines; Larry Zenner, Wentworth S.D.; Mrs. William1 Wells, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Phil Rice, Glidden. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Grant Bender (Nellie) of Glidden, who died Aug. 19, 1935, and the following sisters: Mrs. Annie Cronin, Lemars; Mrs. Kate Koontz, Onawa; Mrs. Christina Gute, Glidden; Mrs. Mary Southwell, Rockford, Wash., and Mrs. Lizzie Hewitt, Sac City.
