RUHLAND, 79 CALLED BY DEATH Pioneer Laid To Rest Saturday Morning In Lincoln Township Mrs. Bennet Ruhland, a resident of this county since 1884, and a mother of a large family, passed away at her home in Stanton township, Wednesday afternoon, at the age of 79 years, 27 days. With the toll of long years she fell happily asleep in the arms of her maker. A few years ago she took sick with the flu from which she never regained her strength. Mrs. Ruhland, nee' Kunkel, was born on November 1, at Spring Hollow, Hazel Green, Grant county, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Lincoln township, where a solemn high mass was celebrated by Father Kocher, Father Neul and Father Forester and the body laid to rest in the Lincoln cemetery beside those of her husband. Wiltgen's had charge of the funeral. The pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Walter Kirchberg, Minert and Aloys Britt, Ben Ruhland and Vincent and Sylvester Sitzmann. On August 22, 1867 she was united in marriage to Benedict Ruhland of that place. They made their home on a farm nine miles south of Le Mars, which has been her home since. To this union were born eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. Her husband and three children preceded her in death. Those who are left to mourn the loss of a living mother are: Michael Ruhland and her daughter, Mrs. Jake Neyens, with whom she made her home after her hus-band's death. Mrs. Frank Kirchberg, Rush City, Minn.; Mrs. Anton Kirchberg, Madison, Minn.; Mrs. Thos. Britt of Stanton township; John Ruhland of Stanton township; Mrs. Louis and Frank Sitzmann, of Elkhorn township; their fifty-three grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were: Mr and Mrs. Frank Kirchberg of Rush City, Minn. Mrs. Anton Kirschberg and son Walter, Madison, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kellen of Madison, Minn.; Mrs. Maggie Vondra, Cuba City, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruhland and family of Strubble; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Brandt of Struble; Mrs. Scharff and family of Remsen; Mrs. Clarence Thomas, Moville. Mrs. Ruhland was always ready to lend a helping hand and her greatest enjoyment was to be surrounded by her family and their children. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic church and enjoyed the acquaintance of many friends. She was a good wife and mother and was well liked by everyone.
