She was born April 23, 1926, in Bethel, MO, the daughter of Robert Lester and Mary Louisa Smoot. She married William L. (Bill) Shouse on April 23, 1946 in Bethel. He died on February 27, 2009. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Schneblin and husband Rich, Bethel; one brother Kenneth Smoot and wife Virginia, Eau Claire, WI; two sisters, Norma Beckett and husband Leroy, Arlington, TX, Bonnie Tarbet, Shelbina; one brother-in-law, Donald Shouse and wife Marilyn, Shelbyville; one sister-in-law, Maureta Smoot, Bethel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; James Smoot; and two sisters, Neva Dee Crousore and Nadean Tarbet. She was a 1944 graduate of Bethel High School and attended Hannibal-LaGrange College. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Church. She enjoyed working aside her husband on their farm near Bethel and was employed as a bookkeeper at the Bethel School and the Shelbyville Elevator. She enjoyed being active in her church and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 10, at the Bethel Christian Church, Bethel, with Michael Brands officiating. Burial was in Shelby Memorial Cemetery, Shelbyville. Visitation was Thursday evening. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Christian Church or Show-Me Christian Youth Home, LaMonte.
