YOUNGQUIST SCHOOL TEACHER FOR MANY YEARS Marguerite Edith Newton was born to Guy and Pearl Newton on may 28, 1910 at Stamford, Nebraska; the third of five children. She passed away at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, May 8, 1974 following a long illness. Marguerite attended elementary school at harlan County District 25 and high school at Orleans, NE. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan College for two years and then taught school at Henley, NE. for four years, before marrying Louis Youngquist April 5, 1934. Marguerite and Lou lived on a farm near Stamfordd for nine years. The children, Newton and Helen, were born there. They were active in the Presbyterian Church of Stamford and in Community affairs. In 1943, the family moved to a farm north of Kensington, They joined the Beulah Methodist Church and made many good friends amoung both the Beulah and Pleasant Green communities. Marguerite was active in WSCS, the Home Demonstration Unit, and the 4-H Club. She returned to teaching at eh Gooer and Sumner country schools. She also resumed work on her bachelor's degree and graduated from Fort Hays, KS. State College. After Marguerite and Lou moved to Kensington in 1961, she taught in the Kensington elementary school for ten years. Her family, friends and neighbors, her church, and her school children were the most important things in Marguerite's life. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Adria, and brother Abel, who were twins. She leaves behind her husband, Newton and wife of Kensington, and Helen Mayhew, Mesa, Arizona; her grandchildren, Kevin Youngquist and Mark and Laurie Mayhew; and her sister, Zelma Bose of Cambridge, Nebraska, and Velma Wroot of Stamford, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends. Rev. Loren Marlor officiated at Memorial services Saturday may 11 at Simmons Chapel in Kensington. Don Wiens sang the hyms and was accompained by Ruth Wolf. Graveside services were held at 4:00 at Stamford, NE. Interment was in Stamford Cemetery. Casket bearers included Alvin Wolf, Guy Billings, Ross Ferguson, Wayne Ratliff, harvey Rathert and Albert Rathert.
