She was the former Marguerite Isobel Manion of Almonte and she died on Monday, Dec 24. The remains arrived here on a Wednesday morning train and were conveyed to St Mary's Church where requiem mass was said by Rev Canon John Cunningham, P.P. The body was placed in the vault at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The late Mrs Kirkland was born in Bathurst near Perth and came to Almonte with her family when she was a young girl. She attended the schools here and then joined the staff of the Almonte Gazette becoming one of the most proficient linotype operator the plant ever turned out. After some years at the technical end of the business she became the accountant and looked after the office work. On Sept 1st, 1926, she married Mr J.C. Kirkland, a former Almonte boy, who was mining engineer stationed at Michipicoten, near Sault Ste Marie. After a few years there they removed to the great mining centre of Timmins and resided at Schumacher, a mile or so distant from that city. Mrs Kirkland leaves in addition to her husband, a son and two daughters, namely John, attending Osgoode Hall, Toronto; Margo (Mrs Roger Todhunter) of Kingston and Mary at home. There are also four brothers and four sisters – William, Thomas and Reginald of Ottawa and Leo of East Grand Forks Minn.; Mary (Mrs E.J. Letang), Montreal; Gertrude in New York City; Elizabeth (Mrs P. Ryan), Syracuse and Alice (Mrs Evans), Syracuse. Pallbearers at the funeral were Messrs W.A. Jamieson, R.A. Jamieson, Louis Peterson, James Steele, Clarke Gourlay and Nelson Thompson, the last mentioned of Ottawa
