Born to Daniel Darnell and Pearl McEwen Darnell on June 7, 1918, she was known to her friends as Margie, grew up in Kansas and traveled with her family. Read More	Marguerite Darnell Hamrick died at her home in Biltmore Forest, North Carolina on March 23, 2015. Born to Daniel Darnell and Pearl McEwen Darnell on June 7, 1918, she was known to her friends as Margie, grew up in Kansas and traveled with her family. In the 1930’s Margie moved to New York City to begin her dancing career with the New York City Ballet Company and the Metropolitan Dance Society. In 1940 she met the love of her life, Charles Fullerton Hamrick at a dinner before one of her performances. They married in June 1942 and remained in New York City where their daughters; Marguerite Elaine and Pamela Waite were born. Margie was involved in fund raising for many charitable organizations in New York City. In addition, she actively participated in sewing outreach projects at the Brick Presbyterian Church where she and other volunteers made crafts to raise money for various missions. She volunteered at Bellevue Hospital Center where she taught sewing skills to women. While living in New York City, Margie became an avid golfer. She and Charles became members of Winged Foot Golf Club where they made many long lasting friendships. She also became an accomplished equestrienne, a passion which she shared with her daughter Elaine. She joined the Ox Ridge Hunt Club in Connecticut where she kept her beloved horses for many years. Her favorite horse was John Peel and Margie delighted in telling stories about their partnership. Margie spent many hours at the Figure Skating Club of New York, encouraging and celebrating her daughter Pamela’s figure skating talents. She spoke proudly of Pamela’s artistry and success in competition all over the East Coast. Margie and her husband Charles were world travelers. Their favorite places included France, Greece, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. They were avid skiers for many years and Margie reported that it was easier to travel to Geneva than to get to the Rocky Mountains! In 1986, Margie and Charles left her beloved New York City life and moved to Delray Beach Florida. They continued golfing at the Delray Beach Country Club and became dedicated members of the Delray Presbyterian Church. After their move to Delray Beach, she and Charles spent their summers in Asheville, North Carolina where they joined Biltmore Forest Country Club. She delighted in golfing and horseback riding with her friends, developing many lifelong and devoted friendships in Delray and Asheville. She had many artistic talents and hobbies. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing and needlepoint. In her later years, she enjoyed teaching sewing skills to her granddaughter Samantha. Her artistry was conveyed in her beautiful oil paintings and the needlepoint pillows and tapestries displayed in her home. Margie was predeceased by her beloved brother, Daniel Darnell of California in 1998. His son Hank resides in California with his family and mourns the passing of his aunt. Margie was devastated by the loss of her beloved husband Charles, in 2007. Margie is survived by two daughters, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Her daughter Pamela resides in Palm Desert, California with her husband Daniel Huber. Her daughter Elaine and husband Day Shields reside in Wilton, Connecticut with Margie’s grandson, Charles. Granddaughter Samantha Shields resides with her husband Rud Severs in Rhode Island with their daughter Plum. Margie, or “Moo Moo” as she preferred to be called, was beloved by her grandchildren who visited her frequently and delighted in her warmth and humor. After Plum was born in 2009, she accompanied her mother and adored spending time with her great grandmother. During her life, she was a faithful wife and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was fiercely loyal to her family, her Christian faith and her country. In her later days she prayed daily for her country and family to know her Lord and Savior. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her which will only be filled with cherished memories of time spent with her. May she rest in eternal peace. Funeral services for family members will be held graveside at Oakland Cemetery Gaffney, S.C. at the Hamrick Family Mausoleum at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 28, 2015. In lieu of flowers, Margie requested that memorials be made to the Fullerton Foundation Inc. PO Box 2208, Gaffney, S.C. 29342, or to the charity of one’s choice.
