Read More	Obituary Mariah Anna MARTIN MAVIS 4 Jun 1847 - 5 Oct 1912 Bryan Press - October 10, 1912 Anna Mariah Martin was born in Columbiana County, June 4th, 1847. She departed this life October 5, 1912, aged 65 years, 4 months and 1 day. When but a small child she came with her parents to Farmer township on the farm which was her recent home and where she spent a greater part of her life. On January 1st, 1870, she was united in marriage with Calvin Mavis and to this union were born twelve children, four of whom preceded her to the other shore. Two sons who died in infancy, a daughter who died in 1895 and a son who was at rest only a few days until his mother joined him. At all times through the joys and sorrows of her busy life she was a loyal, faithful wife, patiently bearing her share of the burdens of life. Always a true, self-sacrificing mother, ever willing to sacrifice her pleasures and her comforts for her family. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband and eight daughters, nine grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, and a large number of near relatives and many friends and neighbors. Although there will be a vacant chair and another gone from our family circle, whose tender care we shall always miss, her loving kindness to us through the years of motherhood have taught us to love and honor old age and silvery hair and the many lessons taught us by her character will never be forgotten. " Mother! Dear Mother! the feelings nurst As I hung on thy bosom - clung round thee first. 'Twas the earliest link in love's warm chain, 'Tis the only one that will long remain. And as year by year, and day by day, Some friend still trusted drops away, Mother! Dear Mother! O, dost thou see How the shortened chain brings me nearer thee!" The funeral services were conducted by Rev. O. F. Laughbaum D. D., pastor of the United Brethren Church of Bryan, O., on Tuesday, October 8th, at 2 p.m. This service was largely attended and was very impressive. The music, the sermon, the service and attendance should be comforting to the friends while the many beautiful flowers were suggestive of the land of pure delight where never fading flowers bloom. The body was laid away to rest by the side of the son, who had been placed in the same cemetery lot but ten days before. One by one they are gathering home, soon will we join them. May we all meet on that happy shore where life and immortality reign forever more.
