Maria "Mary" Seltz was born in Germany to Jacob and Anna Greggers Seltz August 3, 1874 at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 11 days. She was the third child of six. Her siblings were Johann, Claus, Catharina, Julius and Anna Christina, who died at age three. The rest all came to the United States. Her mother died when she was nine years old.Her father remarried to Christina Engel. In the year 1899, she came to America and worked for her brother at Elkhorn, Nebr. for four years. On December 28, 1905, she was united in marriage to William Neuhaus. To this union six children were born, all of whom are living. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Neuhaus moved to Papillion, Nebr., where they resided for 14 years. They, then, moved to Creighton and have since lived on a farm west of Creighton. Besides the husband and children, Herman, Arthur, Alvin, Willie, Marie and Helen, the deceased is survived by three brothers; John at Elkhorn, Julius of Bennington and Claus of Seattle, Wash. and one sister, Mrs. Herman Thiesen of Omaha. Funeral services were held on last Sunday at Elkhorn from the home of her brother, John Seltz, conducted by a Lutheran minister from Benson, Nebr. Burial was made in the Elkhorn Cemetery. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in that city. Friends gathered from nearby towns, where the deceased was known, to pay their final respects. Among them being a number of Creighton friends and neighbors. The many beautiful floral pieces in evidence attested to the esteem in which this good woman was held by her friends.
